New · Czech test, English interpreter

Czech driving theory test with an interpreter

There is no English theory test in the Czech Republic. The questions are in Czech and an interpreter translates them for you. Practise exactly that here: the screen stays in Czech, the interpreter reads each question and its options in English, and the clock runs just like with the examiner.

How the exam with an interpreter works

Czech law lets you take the exam with an interpreter if you do not speak Czech. There are rules, though, and it pays to know them in advance.

  1. 1

    You arrange the interpreter

It has to be an officially registered (court) interpreter. You book and pay them yourself, not the driving school or the authority.

  2. 2

    They must attend all lessons

You can only have an interpreter at the exam if they were present at every theory lesson. Their attendance is recorded along with yours.

  3. 3

    The questions stay in Czech

The rules and first-aid exam is then held orally. The questions are asked in Czech, the interpreter translates and you answer.

  4. 4

    The interpreter only translates

No explanations, no hints, no corrections. If the translation does not make it clear, you have to know the answer anyway. That is exactly why you should practise in this mode.

What the simulation does

Same questions, same points and same time as the real test. The only difference is how each question reaches you.

01

Czech screen

You see the question and options in Czech, just like at the exam. There is no switch to English.

02

The interpreter reads on their own

When you move to the next question, the interpreter starts reading automatically. Replay it any time (key R).

03

Same option numbers

The interpreter reads “Answer 1, Answer 2…”, so you can match the translation to the Czech option straight away.

04

Transcript on demand

If you still do not catch a sentence after a second listen, open the English transcript. You will not have it at the exam, so use it as a safety net, not a habit.

05

Real time limit and scoring

25 questions, 30 minutes, 43 out of 50 points. Results count towards your statistics and readiness.

06

You pick up Czech words

After a few hundred questions you will recognise the key Czech words even without the interpreter. That is a big confidence boost at the exam.

03

The words the questions hinge on

The interpreter translates the whole sentence, but the right answer often depends on a single word. These are worth recognising in Czech too.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as an English test?

No. There is no English test at the exam. The questions are always in Czech and the interpreter translates them. That is why the simulation shows Czech and only reads English aloud. People who only ever studied the English questions are often caught off guard.

How many questions have an English voice?

1,108 questions in the database are professionally voiced. For the rest the interpreter uses your browser voice, so every question is read aloud.

Can I switch the whole question to English?

In a regular test, yes, with the “Show in English” button. In interpreter mode the switch is turned off on purpose. You only get a transcript of what the interpreter said.

Is it useful for driving schools?

Yes. If you teach foreign learners, send them this page or set up a class for them in the app. You will see how ready they are before they pay an interpreter for the exam.

How much does it cost?

Nothing for learners, just sign in. Want to go through your weak spots with a teacher in English? Book a consultation.

Rehearse the exam before you pay for an interpreter

An interpreter at the exam costs money, and so does every retake. Do a few practice runs and find out whether the translation is enough for you.
