Prohibitory signs
They forbid or restrict something — and stay in force until they end.
40 signs
-
B 1 No vehicles in either direction The sign prohibits entry to all types of vehicle. -
B 2 No entry The sign prohibits entry to all types of vehicle onto a one-way road on which traffic runs in the opposite direction. -
B 3 No motor vehicles except solo motorcycles The sign prohibits entry to all motor vehicles except motorcycles without a sidecar.
The prohibition does not apply to trams or to non-motorised vehicles. -
B 4 No goods vehicles The sign prohibits entry to goods vehicles and special-purpose vehicles. It also prohibits entry to tractors whose maximum permissible weight exceeds 3,500 kg and whose design speed is 80 km/h or more. The sign does not apply to motor caravans.
Where a maximum permissible weight is shown on a supplementary plate or on the sign beneath the goods vehicle symbol, the sign applies to vehicles whose maximum permissible weight exceeds that figure. For a combination of vehicles, the sum of the maximum permissible weights of all vehicles in the combination is decisive. -
B 5 No buses The sign prohibits entry to buses. -
B 6 No tractors The sign prohibits entry to tractors, including single-axle tractors, powered hand trucks and self-propelled working machines. -
B 7 No motorcycles The sign prohibits entry to motorcycles. -

B 12 No entry for the vehicles shown The sign prohibits entry to vehicles of the types shown. -
B 13 No vehicles over the weight shown The sign prohibits entry to vehicles whose actual weight exceeds the figure shown on the sign. For a combination of vehicles, that figure applies to each vehicle in the combination separately.
Where the sign is supplemented by a plate reading "Single vehicle ... t", a vehicle may enter the marked section if its actual weight — or, for a combination, the actual weight of all vehicles in the combination — exceeds the figure on the sign but not the figure on the plate. -
B 14 No vehicles over the axle weight shown The sign prohibits entry to vehicles whose actual weight per axle exceeds the figure shown on the sign. -

B 19 No vehicles carrying loads that may pollute The sign prohibits entry to vehicles carrying oil, oil products or other substances that could endanger the environment, in particular by polluting water. The quantity and, where relevant, the nature of the load may be given on a supplementary plate. -
B 20a Maximum speed limit The sign prohibits the driver from exceeding the speed shown on it as a figure in kilometres per hour.
The sign also ceases to apply at the signs "Motorway", "End of motorway", "Road for motor vehicles", "End of road for motor vehicles", "Built-up area" and "End of built-up area". -
B 20b End of maximum speed limit The sign ends the validity of the preceding sign "Maximum speed limit".
Careful: beyond the sign, the maximum speed follows from the general rules of the road or from the relevant zone sign.
Where the preceding sign "Maximum speed limit" is limited by a supplementary plate, that plate is also shown beneath this sign. -
B 21a No overtaking The sign prohibits the driver from overtaking a motor vehicle on the left, except motorcycles without a sidecar.

B 21b End of no overtaking The sign ends the validity of the sign "No overtaking". -
B 22a No overtaking by goods vehicles The sign prohibits the driver of a goods vehicle with a maximum permissible weight exceeding 3,500 kg, or of a tractor whose maximum permissible weight exceeds 3,500 kg and whose design speed is 80 km/h or more, from overtaking a motor vehicle on the left.
On a carriageway with two or more lanes in one direction of travel, the driver of such a goods vehicle or tractor must not use any lane other than the right-hand one unless it is necessary in order to pass an obstruction.
Where the sign is placed above the carriageway, it applies to the full width of the carriageway in that direction of travel. -
B 22b End of no overtaking by goods vehicles The sign ends the validity of the sign "No overtaking by goods vehicles". -

Where a time is shown in the red circle in the lower part of the sign, the prohibition applies only during that time. -
B 29 No parking The sign prohibits parking, that is, bringing the vehicle to rest for longer than the time strictly necessary for passengers to board or alight without delay, or for a load to be taken on or off without delay.
Where a time is shown in the red circle in the lower part of the sign, the prohibition applies only during that time. -
B 30 No pedestrians The sign prohibits pedestrians from entering the road in the area beyond the sign. -
B 30a No personal transporters The sign prohibits entry by persons on personal transporters and riding a personal transporter. Wheeling a personal transporter on foot is permitted. -

B 32 Other prohibition The sign imposes a prohibition other than one that can be expressed by another prohibitory sign in this annex. The prohibition is expressed by suitable wording or a prescribed symbol inside the red circle.
Where the sign reads "NO THROUGH TRAFFIC", the driver must not enter the marked section without a reason. Avoiding difficult traffic conditions or taking a short cut does not count as such a reason.
Where the sign reads "CNG", "LPG" or otherwise names a type of vehicle propulsion, vehicles with that propulsion are prohibited from entering the marked section.
Where the sign reads "SMOG", driving — not merely entry — is prohibited for the specified vehicles in an area for which a smog situation has been declared under other legislation. -

B 34 Minimum distance between vehicles The sign prohibits the driver from keeping a distance from the vehicle in front that is shorter than the figure shown on the sign.
